First Game

Today was my first league game as a basketball coach. New things always scare me. i get nervous - you know - as if I'm giving a speech or something. By the time the game started, i was calm, but still anxious about what was to come. the girls played extremely sloppy. i had to sit all but one starter at some point during the game simply because they put forth zero effort to the cause of the team. the focus of the game is basketball, but that ball seemed to be low on the priority scale. as a coach, i failed. i obviously havent trained them effectively enough for it. our offense reeked, but our defense was worse. the girls all know how i feel about the game, but to them i think a win is a win. not in my book. a poorly won game is a loss. on a realistic note, this was the second game of the season. i would rather deal with the issues now the week of the tourney. the Lord was gracious. we should have lost. but i will learn from this and move on.

i've had games like that, you just keep going. you did fine, too; don't be afraid to bench anybody. are you trying to teach them or win games? it's one or the other. for me, teaching is more fun. losses don't bug you much, and winning is all the better. good work, jen.

That's too bad about your game. You'll do better next time.

Checkout www.mbbc.edu/coffeeshop and see who won the name contest... :)

I miss you and have not sent your package yet. Your life seems to be going somewhere while I sit here still in Wisconsin, doing nothing exciting. I am student teaching at Watertown High, which is a drive. The only thing partly exciting is Gregory and I are expecting baby number two at the end of July/ beginning of August. I am in a rut and it is depressing, which makes a person more depressed.
