Free Food

So today we had a free luncheon at work because we had the "State of the College Address". Then, when I got home this evening my roomie said that her brother reminded her of a pot-luck at our church. (her family goes to our church.)So, on the way over I asked, "What is your mom bringing to the pot-luck?" Her reply? "My family isn't coming." "Uh, Elizabeth! We can't go to a pot-luck empty handed!" She insisted that it was fine so I told her to read what the bulletin said.
"Church Carry-In: Please bring a course to share and if your last name begins with A-L please also bring an appetizer, M-Z a dessert." You're kidding, right? Not only were we pulling into the church empty handed, but we were supposed to bring TWO dishes! As I parked I came up with a plan. If we saw a family in the parking lot we could latch onto, we would explain our predicament and pretend like we were with them. Instantly I saw Bob's future in-laws. We ran over to them (I had some difficulty due to the overwhelming amount of toilet paper crammed into the toe of my oversize shoes), joined the family and Ron (Mandy's dad) said, "Don't worry. When they ask you for your ticket just tell them you are with us." A TICKET?! I thought my eyes were going to bulge out of my head. I was embarrassed already. He then informed me he was joking and we had a wonderful dinner with food to spare. Phew!
